EXPERIENCE THE MEDIA
From 31 August till 2 September 2018 CORRECTIV organises together with its partners, Rheinische Post and the City of Düsseldorf, the biggest open-air festival for journalism, onliners, gamers and for all those who enjoy the digital world: The Campfire-Festival in Düsseldorf.
Everybody interested in an open discussion, action and the media is invited: pupils, students, every man and every woman.
The Campfire-Festival is not an expert conference, it is a three-day festival. We want to encourage an open discussion, communication and exchange. The participation is free. An informal email registration is possible. We are expecting 10.000 visitors.
WHEN AND WHERE?
The festival starts on friday the 31st August 2018 and ends with an open-air concert on sunday the 2nd September. In between there are various panels, discussions, workshops, presentations and talk cafes from the digital world. We will present new technical innovations, have experts from the field and talk to some of the most influential people in Germany.
The festival venue is a signal. We are setting our digital tent camp up in front of the State Parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia. Exactly at the Medienhafen in Düsseldorf, idyllic on the Rhine in the Bürgerpark. It could not be more central: easily accessible by public transport, a popular get-together spot in the heart of political life of the state capital Düsseldorf.

WHO CONTRIBUTES TO?
The festival is organised by CORRECTIV. The partners are the Rheinische Post and the City of Düsseldorf.
Campfire 2018 is the second edition of the festival which took place in Dortmund in 2017 and was a big success. On the stage we will host the first league of the German media represented by chief editors, actors and celebrities.

The Campfire-Festival is widely supported. We are communicating intensively with various organisations and companies.
The festival première in 2017 promoted numerous media and communications companies, foundations and organisations. Among them Facebook, Google, Stiftung Mercator, Telekom Stiftung, European Center for Press and Media Freedom, Fleiß & Mut, RTL School for Journalists, the Federal Agency for Civic Education, the State Institute for Media in North Rhine-Westphalia, Otto Brenner Stiftung, Netzwerk Recherche…
WHO SHOULD COME?
Our program is aimed at:
- everybody who feels at home in the online world;
- families, young and elderly people who want to playfully experience the media and get inspired by the new;
- newspaper readers, smart phone users, TV watchers who want to experience their favourite reporters live and have an open discussions with them;
- young journalists and media-to-be representatives;
- the creative, who want to discover new projects or contribute to the festival themselves;
- everybody who wants to experience something exciting.
In the middle of all that, there will be bands playing and artists with their programs. We gather at the Campfire-Festival around a one of its kind campfire where the stories come to life.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
The media have a very important role in our everyday life. We consume them and thanks to the social media we create them too. We live in a digital village.
The festival sees itself as a focal point of the new approaches in the country to strengthen media skills and citizen participation.
We present international and national ‚best practice‘ examples, give the makers of the media world the opportunity to present innovative approaches and organise the workshops where beginners can learn from experts how to feel confident online, how to use media options on their smart phones, and how they can immerse themselves in these new virtual worlds.
Together we want to discuss and try out the chances of the media for the future of our democracy.

Call for Participation
At the Campfire-Festival we want to present the whole diversity of media clarification: all what the media and the online world represents. Television and radio. Newspapers, games, hackathons, virtual realities and podcasts. Universities and schools. Foundations and companies. The new and the old. That is why we are doing ‚Call for Participation.‘ Every organisation can submit its ideas and rent a tent at the Campfire-Festival, where this same organisation can be its own organizer and implement its own program. Moreover, in the tent you can present your own projects and invite your own guests.
